Berniece (Bunny) Mae Babczak passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Homestead Hospice House after a short period of declining health.
Mass of Christian Burial is set for Monday, May 14, 2018 at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Owatonna. Friends may greet the family on Sunday, May 13 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the Brick – Meger Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

A lifelong resident of Steele County, Bunny was born March 6, 1924 to Joseph and Mollie (Kovar) Simon who farmed near Steele Center. She attended District 87 country school through eighth grade, graduated from Owatonna High School class of 1942, and then began work at the EF Johnson Company in Waseca. After a couple of years she returned to Owatonna to begin work at Jostens. She was married to Louis R. Babczak of Hope on February 9, 1948 at St. Hyacinth's Church in Owatonna and then stayed home to help run the farm near Hope and raise a family. After her daughter started college, she returned to work at Josten's and retired in 1990. She was a seamstress, did needlework, gardened and enjoyed playing cards and going to dances at the area ballrooms. In her later years she enjoyed reading large print books delivered from the Owatonna Public Library. She was a member of the VFW #3723 Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; brothers George, Walter & Alfred (Pat) Simon; sister Alice Oldefendt; sister-in-law Marian (Ihlow) Simon; and brother-in-law Evan Oldefendt. She is survived by her daughter Virginia M. Babczak of Concord, New Hampshire; grandson Daniel M. Shirk and Ana Ochoa & their son Sebastian of Playa Del Rey, California; granddaughter Debra M. Shirk and fiancé Brett Erwin of Cornelius, North Carolina; sister-in-law Marian (Kubicek) Simon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
